No classes/clinical activities for students on Tuesday, July 9. Remote work for nonclinical employees encouraged.

As we recover from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Beryl, there will be no classes or clinical activities for students on Tuesday, July 9.

Nonclinical employees who are able to work remotely are encouraged to do so. Because of widespread power outages and unstable internet and phone service, we understand that remote work may be challenging. Please discuss options with your supervisor.

If it is safe to travel from your area to the Texas Medical Center and you wish to do so, UTHealth Houston students, trainees, faculty, and staff are welcome to come to campus to seek respite while power and other essential services are being restored across the region. Most university facilities, including the schools and the Jesse Jones Library Building, have power, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi.

Clinical services

Clinical teams are working quickly to restore all clinical operations and reschedule appointments for patients.

  • UT Physicians should continue to monitor their emails, phones, UTPhysicians.com, and the UT Physicians intranet for clinic updates.
  • UT Dentists personnel and UTHealth School of Dentistry students, residents, faculty, and staff should monitor their email, phones, and school website for updates on clinical operations.
  • Faculty and staff members working with our hospital partners, including Memorial Hermann Health System and Harris Health System, should check with their supervisors.
  • UTHealth Houston Behavioral Sciences Campus remains on emergency status. Employees should follow inclement weather procedures and call 713-741-5001 to check the status of the psychiatric center.
  • For updates on UT Health Services and Employee Health, please visit their website.

Facility updates

  • Flood doors on the Houston campus are being reopened. Faculty and staff are still able to access buildings to continue mission-critical work, including research.
  • The parking garage at the Jesse Jones Library Building and basement-level parking at the UTHealth Houston Professional Building will reopen tomorrow, July 9.
  • The UTHealth Houston shuttle service is expected to be fully operational tomorrow.

Critical Systems Back Online

As of 2:30 p.m. CT, IT has confirmed that all of UTHealth Houston’s critical systems in the primary data center are online, and service has been fully restored.

Cold weather expected for Houston Jan. 14-17

The National Weather Service anticipates freezing temperatures affecting Houston from Sunday, Jan. 14, through Wednesday, Jan. 17.

There is a low chance of precipitation, but the ambient temperatures can potentially impact particular UTHealth Houston buildings. Environmental Health and Safety has coordinated with Facilities, Planning and Engineering to prepare for this event.

Please report any building damage to the Fix It team at FixIt@uth.tmc.edu.
