UTHealth Houston will shift to remote learning and work on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22.

With an arctic blast moving into the region and a chance of ice, snow, or sleet following Martin Luther King Jr. Day, UTHealth Houston will shift to remote learning and work for most of its activities on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22. The Recreation Center will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

For students, classroom and clinical activities will either be remote or canceled at the direction of the schools.

Nonclinical employees who can work remotely are encouraged to do so, provided it is approved by their supervisor, and their remote work area is not actively affected by adverse conditions including power outages, internet disruptions, etc. Employees defined by their departments as essential should contact their supervisor.

Clinical activities
UT Physicians clinics will be open as scheduled tomorrow. Clinics will be closed for in-person appointments all day on Tuesday, and will have a delayed opening at noon on Wednesday. All telemedicine appointments will proceed as scheduled. Employees should monitor their emails, phones, UTPhysicians.com, and the UT Physicians intranet for additional information regarding clinic delays or closures.

All clinics at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry will be closed on Tuesday. UT Dentists personnel and UTHealth School of Dentistry students, residents, faculty, and staff should monitor their email and the school website and social media accounts for updates on clinical operations for Wednesday.

Most in-person/virtual classes, clinical rotations to resume July 10

As the Greater Houston area is recovering after Tropical Storm Beryl, UTHealth Houston continues to adjust its work and learning schedules to meet the needs of students, trainees, faculty, and staff.

Beginning Wednesday, July 10, most in-person and virtual classes, as well as clinical rotations, will resume for students. Each school will communicate additional details and will work directly with students who experienced storm damage and are not yet able to return to coursework and training.

Nonclinical employees may return to the Houston campus or continue to work remotely as approved by their supervisor. Timekeeping instructions are forthcoming.

While widespread power outages continue to present a challenge for a number of our clinic locations, most expect to be reopened by tomorrow.

  • Employees at UT Physicians should monitor their emails, phones, UTPhysicians.com, and the UT Physicians intranet for clinic updates.
  • UT Dentists personnel and UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry students, residents, faculty, and staff should monitor their email, phones, and school website for updates on clinical operations.

The Operations Center Building (OCB) is running on emergency power. With the exception of University Housing and the Recreation Center, we have electricity, air conditioning, and internet access in all our academic, research, and administrative facilities. Most routes into the Texas Medical Center are clear. The UTHealth Houston shuttles are in service, and parking garages and lots are open. The French Corner will be up and running serving breakfast and lunch tomorrow at its McGovern Medical School and School of Dentistry locations. Please continue to stay safe, and we look forward to welcoming you all back to campus.

No classes/clinical activities for students on Tuesday, July 9. Remote work for nonclinical employees encouraged.

As we recover from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Beryl, there will be no classes or clinical activities for students on Tuesday, July 9.

Nonclinical employees who are able to work remotely are encouraged to do so. Because of widespread power outages and unstable internet and phone service, we understand that remote work may be challenging. Please discuss options with your supervisor.

If it is safe to travel from your area to the Texas Medical Center and you wish to do so, UTHealth Houston students, trainees, faculty, and staff are welcome to come to campus to seek respite while power and other essential services are being restored across the region. Most university facilities, including the schools and the Jesse Jones Library Building, have power, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi.
